U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley, D-Oregon, met with Supreme Court nominee Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson on Thursday and declared his support for her nomination.
“Judge Jackson will bring much-needed diversity of lived experience and professional background to the Supreme Court,” he said, adding that he believes she “shares a commitment to ensuring that the law is enforced evenhandedly.”
Jackson had her final day of confirmation hearings Thursday.
The committee heard from legal experts and civil rights leaders and Jackson met with senators.
It came after two days of intense questioning.
Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell defended Republican’s actions.
“The last 48 hours were a dry and friendly legal seminar compared to the circus the Democrats inflicted on the country just a few years back,” he said. “The last three days have been long, exhausting for senators, and I’m certain they were much more so for Judge Jackson. I believe that she carried herself with grace, humility and dignity, with thoughtful and forthright and her responses.”
According to ABC News, the committee will consider her nomination this coming Monday, March 28. The committee would then vote on whether to advance the nomination on Monday, April 4. By April 8, Democrats say they hope to have full confirmation.
The Senate then goes on recess for its Easter break.
