VIDEO RELEASE: Merkley Celebrates Opening of New National Crowdfunding Marketplace for Small Business Investment

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley released the following statement after new rules from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) went into effect, creating a new national marketplace for equity crowdfunding investment in small businesses and startups. Merkley is the lead author of the CROWDFUND Act, the legislation that authorized the SEC to create this new marketplace.

“Today is a big day for our small business economy. Crowdfunding will put capital within reach of anyone with a good idea and an Internet connection – and it will allow small investors to benefit as well, with the transparency and investor protections that are critical to making this new marketplace successful. I look forward to seeing exciting growth and innovation as crowdfunding expands from the state to the national level.”
