WASHINGTON, D.C. – Early this morning, Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley arrived along with a delegation of United States Senators to participate in global climate talks that are ongoing in Paris.
“Climate change is a global problem that requires a global solution,” said Merkley. “An international climate accord in Paris would be a tremendous step forward on the path toward averting climate catastrophe, and I look forward to working toward that goal with my counterparts from other nations.”
While in Paris, Merkley will meet with negotiators, foreign leaders and dignitaries, civil society organizations, and fellow legislators from other nations.
The delegation includes Senator Ben Cardin, Ranking Member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, and Senators Cory Booker (D-NJ), Chris Coons (D-DE), Al Franken (D-MN), Edward J. Markey (D-MA), Brian Schatz (D-HI), Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), Tom Udall (D-NM), and Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI).
