WASHINGTON, D.C. – Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley released the following statement after the White House announced a new round of companies joining the American Business Act on Climate Pledge. Merkley joined senior Administration officials and executives of the companies at the White House for the announcement.
“I appreciate the strong support from America’s business leaders for an international climate agreement this year in Paris. If we don’t take action now, climate change will cause incredible economic disruption in the coming years. In fact, climate change is already hurting Oregon’s farming, fishing and forestry industries. It’s time to take real action on the international level, and these companies are leading the way and showing that the transition to clean energy isn’t just good for the environment, it’s good for business too.”
Companies with a substantial Oregon presence signing the pledge include Nike, Intel, Portland General Electric, and Iberdrola USA. More details on the pledge and the participating companies can be found here.
