WASHINGTON – Today marks the one-year anniversary of the implementation of the Affordable Care Act’s women’s preventive health benefit. Because of this, nearly all health insurance now includes well-woman visits, contraception and other critical services for women, all without a co-pay. Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley released the following statement applauding this provision that puts women in control of their own health.
“Women want control over the decisions that affect their health, but we all know cost can be a huge barrier. That’s why co-pay-free preventive care is smart care. Access to contraception and well-woman exams with no additional cost ensures that women, not politicians or insurance companies, are in control. And when women are in the driver’s seat, our families and communities do better.”
An estimated 360,000 Oregon women are receiving expanded co-pay-free preventive health care services under the Affordable Care Act.
