Washington, DC – Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley issued the following statement after the Army Corps of Engineers decided not to undergo a full environmental review of the proposed coal export terminals in Oregon.
“I am very disappointed with the announcement from the Army Corps that they have decided to not do a comprehensive environmental review, like a programmatic environmental impact statement, of the coal export projects being proposed in the Northwest. Before any terminal is built we need to have a full understanding of both the local and global environmental impacts these terminals would have. The Army Corps should reverse their decision, and do these studies in order to give the public a clear understanding of the impact of these terminals.”
