Washington, DC – Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley issued the following statement after the passage of the conference report of the extension of the payroll tax cut and continuation of unemployment insurance.
“I am pleased that the House and the Senate have come to a deal on the extension of the payroll tax cut and of unemployment insurance. This bill ensures that 40,000 out-of-work Oregonians won’t lose their lifeline to pay for basic living expenses while searching for a job. This bill will also put an extra $1,000 on average in the paychecks of working Oregonians. Finally by fixing Medicare compensation rates, we make sure doctors’ doors are open for Oregon’s seniors. This bill is a good deal for working families, sustaining economic growth, and our seniors’ health.”
