Washington, DC– Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley issued the following statement in recognition of Veterans Day.
“Tomorrow we will honor the men and women who have served our nation in the armed forces. With courage and grace, our servicemen and women fought for and defended our country and the unique rights and liberties we have as Americans. Our debt to those who have served is vast. Veterans Day is a reminder to all Americans of the commitments we need to fulfill to our veterans. To the veterans of Oregon and the United States of America: thank you.”
This week, Senator Merkley joined the U.S. Senate HEROES (Honoring, Embracing, and Recognizing Our Exceptional Service members) Caucus. The mission of the caucus is to support “Capitol Tours for America’s Heroes,” a program with the Department of Defense, Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, and the National Naval Medical Center at Bethesda that offers rehabilitating service members guided tours of the United States Capitol.
