Washington, D.C. – Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley issued the following statement after the U.S. Senate voted against H.R. 1, the House Republican budget plan:
“I voted against the Republican House budget plan today because our number one priority needs to be creating jobs.
“Nonpartisan analysts have determined that the House budget will destroy 700,000 jobs. The unemployment rate in Oregon is still above 10 percent – the last thing we need to do is add to that number.
“We need a responsible budget plan that brings down the deficit without compromising our ability to educate children, create jobs, and invest in the future.”
