Merkley sponsors breastfeeding bill

Glad to hear that Sen. Jeff Merkley is sponsoring the Breastfeeding Promotion Act at the federal level. It’s based on Oregon’s law that ensures new mothers can express breast milk or breastfeed their infants privately during breaks at their workplace.

It’s now widely known that feeding infants breast milk only during their first six months gives them the best possible nutritional start in life. Breastfeeding helps lower the risk of allergies, asthma, diarrhea, respiratory infections, diabetes and obesity for children, and keeps health care costs down. Also, breastfeeding lowers women’s risk of breast and ovarian cancer.
