Federal Student Aid
The Federal Government offers many programs for students to help them afford to attend college. Below are specific federal programs geared towards helping students achieve various levels of academia and also programs to assist students facing economic difficulties.
- TEACH Grant Program » The Teacher Assistance for College and Higher Education Grant Program can provide up to $4,000 in grants each year to students who intend on pursuing teaching in public, private or secondary schools that serve students from low income families.
- Federal Pell Grant » Federal Pell Grants are need-based grants given to low income undergraduate students who have not earned a bachelor’s or professional degree. Federal Pell Grants do not have to be repaid by students.
- Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant » Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants (FSEOG) are grants awarded to low income undergraduate students. Federal Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grants do not have to be repaid by students.

State Student Aid
The Oregon State Association Commission offers more than 320 scholarships programs for students. One program, the Oregon Opportunity Grant is available for low income undergraduate students for eight semesters. The grant applies to four year universities, community colleges and Oregon University System institutions.

Repayment of Student Loans
Besides the pressure of finding a job, college students also have to deal with the daunting task of repaying their federal student loans. The Federal Student Aid website has helpful information for students seeking resources to institute payment plans, deferment of loans, consolidation of loans and much more. The website also has a tool where students can calculate the amount of interest they’ll have to pay on their loans each month. The Federal Student Loan website also has helpful information for students looking to apply for a loan and set up repayment plans.
