Washington, D.C. – Oregon’s U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley today issued the following statement after the Supreme Court’s decision in Loper Bright Enterprises v. Raimondo and Relentless, Inc. v. Dept. of Commerce:
“This is a naked power grab by the corrupt MAGA Supreme Court. Their decision replaces reasonable applications of congressional intent—crafted by expert professionals—with the capricious opinion of unaccountable judges.
“The Court’s goal is to make themselves a super legislature that can impose the MAGA agenda of maximizing corporate power while striking down measures supporting consumers, workers, health care, and the environment.
“This Supreme Court decision is a direct assault on government ‘of, by, and for the people’ and clarifies who the Court really works for—the privileged and the powerful.
“The Court’s attack on the separation of powers is also a direct assault on our Constitution. Today is a dark day for our republic and the well-being of our citizens.”
