Sen. Merkley deems infrastructure plan inefficient

President Trump announced his proposed infrastructure plan on Monday and now senator Jeff Merkley is responding to it.

President Trump has called for a $1.5 trillion plan to upgrade highways, railroads and airports.

However, 70 percent of that funding is being asked of individual states and private investors, something Senator Merkley says is unnecessarily costly.

“This involves paying Wall Street middlemen an incentive payment so that they will do tolls on America’s from here to eternity. These Trump tolls are not going to be popular anywhere and they’re terribly inefficient. They cost so much more than investing directly,” said Senator Merkley.

Senator Merkley would like to see direct investment instead , so the public owns the roads and they’re free when they’re built.
