WASHINGTON – Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley released the following statement today after the Senate voted to move forward with the Bring Jobs Home Act, which would bring back manufacturing jobs to Oregon and all of the U.S.:
“We need good-paying jobs right here in America, so it makes no sense to reward companies for shipping jobs overseas. In fact, the opposite is true. We should be insourcing manufacturing to create good-paying family jobs. As someone who grew up in a blue-collar Oregon family, I know what a difference a good job makes and will always push to prevent our Oregon jobs from being outsourced.
“I’m glad to see that so many of my colleagues are joining us to move forward on this common-sense bill. If we don’t make things in America, we won’t have a middle class in America. I encourage my colleagues to move swiftly to send this bill to the House and not to kill this bill by insisting on totally unrelated amendments. Let’s fix our broken tax code and encourage companies to create jobs right here in America, not overseas.”
Senator Merkley is an original cosponsor of the Bring Jobs Home Act, which would close tax loopholes that subsidize corporations for moving their operations overseas and would create new tax incentives for companies that bring jobs back to America.
