Declaración de Merkley sobre la decisión final de la NOAA

Washington DC
– Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley applauded today’s findings by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) that there are no practical alternatives to Newport, Oregon for the home base of the NOAA Pacific Fleet.

“Today’s findings by NOAA again demonstrate that the decision to move the NOAA Pacific Fleet to Newport was the best value for taxpayers and the best facility for the fleet. I commend NOAA for the deliberative process it has undertaken and am excited that the project can continue to move forward. I was just out on the Oregon coast this weekend and heard from leaders up and down the coast that Newport is the logical location and they are ready for this political back and forth to end.  This is a great day for the City of Newport and the state of Oregon.  We have once again shown that Newport is the deserving new home for the NOAA Pacific Fleet.”
