Washington, DC – Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley issued the following statement in response to the summary reversal of the Montana corporate political donation limits by the Supreme Court.
“Today, the Supreme Court doubled down on its disastrous decision in Ciudadanos Unidos. One hundred years ago, Montanans saw their political system effectively bought and paid for by mining interests, and decided to do something about it. It is disturbing and damaging that the Supreme Court has overturned their law that limited the role of special interest money and returned Montana to ‘we the people’ rather than ‘we the powerful’.”
