PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — The new Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail took its first ride on Friday.
Governor Kate Brown, Senator Jeff Merkley and other officials were first ride of the new line, which will be called the MAX Orange Line.
KOIN 6 spoke to Senator Merkley who said “This is a huge contribution for people to get where they need to go in an efficient way, in a cost effective way, in a non-polluting way, it’s just a wonderful wonderful moment.”
The route is 7.3 miles long and travels between downtown Portland and north Clackamas County.
The line will start serving the public on September 12. The ride Friday was the first test ride for the line.
The MAX system now spans over 60 miles and has 97 stations.
