WASHINGTON, D.C. – Oregon’s U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley—who serves on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee and will serve as the Chair of the Congressional-Executive Commission on China for the 117th Congress—released the following statement after Linda Thomas-Greenfield was confirmed to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations:
“After four years of the United States abandoning nearly every form of leadership on the international stage, it’s more important than ever that we once again take a seat at the table to build the strong partnerships needed to tackle this pandemic, the climate crisis, and escalating attacks on human rights around the world.
“The confirmation of Linda Thomas-Greenfield as U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations is a big step in the right direction.
