Portland – Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley’s commitment
to clean energy took him to the U.S. Department of Energy’s National Energy
Technology Laboratory in Albany today where he learned about the facility’s
research including its techniques for minimizing the environmental impact of
fossil fuels and producing sustainable energy.
“This cutting edge research can help reshape our economy
and our environment,” Merkley said. “We have both the need and the
opportunity to transition from fossil fuels to renewable resources. Many
of the advances that will get us there are coming from right here in Albany.”
According to the National Energy Technology Laboratory, its
goals include enhancing America’s energy security,
making energy production and use less harmful to the environment, and
increasing the competitiveness and reliability of U.S. energy systems.
