Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley issued the following statement on today’s announcement of a new partnership between Oregon and the federal government to improve the quality and delivery of care to Oregon residents:
“This is a momentous occasion for our state. Oregon has long been on the vanguard of innovative policies and programs, particularly when it comes to making health care affordable and accessible. This agreement continues that tradition.
“Today’s announcement is groundbreaking for our entire nation as well. In my discussions with Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, advocating for Oregon’s plan developed by Governor Kitzhaber and the Oregon Legislature, I emphasized that Oregon’s efforts could prove to be a model for the rest of the country. This model rightly develops more integrated care that will lower costs and improve quality.
“I congratulate Governor Kitzhaber and his team for winning federal support for this vision.”
