Merkley Statement on End to Republican Filibuster and Passage of Benefits for Unemployed Oregonians

WASHINGTON, D.C
. – Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley issued the following statement after an end to the Republican filibuster and the Senate passage of a 30-day extension of unemployment assistance to millions of Americans who have been hurt by the current recession.

“Tonight, Senate Democrats broke the Republican filibuster that has been hurting workers, seniors and small businesses. This vote gives those in need assistance in these tough times and allows the Senate to get back to work solving America’s problems. Tonight’s passage is a victory for working families, but only a temporary one. Now we need to extend these programs through the end of the year and keep fighting to put Americans back to work.”
