In the face of the damage that wildfires, hurricanes, landslides, tornados, and flooding have wrought on national parks, wildlife refuges, and national forests across the country during the past two years, Senator Merkley made the case for restoration and repair of public lands and infrastructure during a Senate Appropriations Committee Hearing titled, “A Review of Disaster Funding Needs.” Buildings, roads, bridges, communications systems, and other public infrastructure that local communities rely on have been damaged or destroyed during extreme weather events, hurting local economies and harming treasured parks and forests that have millions of visitors each year.
