Merkley: We Need A Minimum Wage People Can Live On

WASHINGTON – Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley released the following statement after a minority of Senators voted to filibuster a bill to raise the minimum wage to $10.10 per hour and index it to inflation. Merkley is one of two Senators leading the minimum wage bill.

“In America, we need a minimum wage people can actually live on. With a minimum wage of $10.10 per hour, people would be paid more fairly for the work they do. They would be better able to support themselves without public assistance. And parents would be able to provide a better foundation for their children.

“Restoring the purchasing power of the minimum wage is essential for American families to have a fair shot at the American Dream.”
