Merkley Welcomes Support of 60 Leading Corporations for the Equality Act

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Oregon’s Senator Jeff Merkley today welcomed the support of 60 leading corporations who announced that they are forming a coalition of support for the Equality Act, landmark bipartisan LGBT rights legislation introduced by Merkley and Rep. David Cicilline (D-RI) in 2015.

The formation of the Business Coalition for the Equality Act was announced today by the Human Rights Campaign.

“No one should have to fear discrimination simply because of who they are or whom they love,” said Merkley. “It’s incomprehensibly wrong that in many states, a couple could marry in the morning and be evicted from their apartment or fired from their jobs in the afternoon. Full equality is the right thing to do, and it’s good for business too.”

The businesses represented in the coalition have operations in all 50 states, headquarters spanning 22 states and a combined $1.9 trillion in revenue. Together, they employ more than 4.2 million people in the United States.
