Washington, D.C. – Oregon’s U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley released the following statement after the Senate considered Republicans’ Continuing Resolution to fund the government until September 30:
“You don’t stop a bully by giving him your lunch money, and you don’t stop tyrant Trump by giving him more power. The Republican spending bill is a blank check for Trump, giving him enormous flexibility to spend your tax dollars only on the programs he likes, and only in the states he wants to.
“This CR slashes billions from the IRS to go after billionaire tax cheats, rips away millions from important health research, kicks 32,000 households out of rental assistance programs, and more.
“I’m a ‘HELL NO’ on this funding bill because we have to stand up and fight tyrant Trump and Republicans who are shutting down the government all to give tax giveaways to their billionaire friends.”
