Oregon literacy programs getting $11.5 million boost

Oregon is getting a boost to the state’s literacy programs – an $11.5 million boost.

Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley announced the funding Friday morning, saying the money will help improve literacy rates among children from kindergarten through high school.

The money is earmarked primarily for children whose first language is not English, as well as students with disabilities, and those with dyslexia.

But Senator Wyden says all students in Oregon will benefit from the added funding by way of teacher training, literary resources, after-school tutoring, and summer programs.
