WASHINGTON, D.C. – Oregon’s U.S. Senator Jeff Merkley released a statement in remembrance of the Americans who died in the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, 20 years ago.
Bottom of FormIn the statement, Merkley said, “Twenty years ago, we lost nearly 3,000 civilians, civilian federal workers, and selfless first responders in a senseless act of hatred and evil. Every day since, their absence has been felt in communities across this country, and the world will never be the same without them.”
“This will always be a solemn day of remembrance-a day to hug our loved ones a little closer, and to reflect on the bravery and courage of all those who fought to save lives in the face of extraordinarily scary and heartbreaking circumstances. Their families and loved ones are in my thoughts and prayers this weekend.”
“My hope is that as we hold the memories of all whom we lost on September 11 in our hearts, we may be reminded of the importance of the spirit of service and community, and strengthen our resolve to dedicate ourselves to our fellow Americans and the values of freedom, equality, and justice that make the promise of this country so special.”
