US Senators Jeff Merkley and Ron Wyden have announced that 13 Oregon agricultural businesses will receive a total of $1.9 million in grants to help them grow and expand.
The grants will be provided through the US Department of Agriculture’s Value-Added Producer Grant Program, which is designed to help farmers, ranchers, small businesses and entrepreneurs nationwide develop new product lines.
Four of the businesses are located in Southern Oregon.
Valley View Winery of Jacksonville will receive a grant of $250,000, while Thompson Creek Organics of Applegate will receive $100,000. Our Family Farms of Medford will receive just over $55,000 and Firebird Farms of Ashland will get about $22,000.
As the top Democrat on the Senate’s Agriculture Appropriations Subcommittee, Merkley has consistently fought to ensure the program receives the funding it needs to boost small businesses and the agriculture industry nationwide and here in Oregon.
