FAQ

How do I request a tour with Senator Merkley’s office?

You can request a tour through Senator Merkley’s office by reading through the options in the Request a Tour tab on the webpage and clicking the Tour Request Form button at the bottom of that page. Senator Merkley’s office can help you make tour requests at the U.S. Capitol, Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Library of Congress, and the White House.

Am I guaranteed a tour?

Unfortunately, the Senator’s office cannot guarantee that you will receive a tour once it has been submitted. In most cases, your requests will be passed on and processed by the tour coordinators at the respective offices of the location(s) you wish to visit. Tours are scheduled based on time availability and space considerations. Senator Merkley’s office can guarantee that your requests will be submitted in a timely fashion and you will be informed when the status of your request changes.

What if I don’t find the tour or site I wanted help with listed on the Senator’s webpage?

If you can’t find information on a tour or site you want to see, please contact Senator Merkley’s Tour Coordinator by phone at (202) 224-3753.

When will I know when my tour is booked?

A member of Senator Merkley’s staff will contact you when the status of your request changes. For White House tours, you won’t receive any status updates until 10 to 14 days before the date or dates you requested. For staff led U.S. Capitol tours scheduled through the Senator’s office, the tour coordinator will go through booking options with you after you’ve submitted your request.

How far in advance should I request my tours?

Tour request processing times vary. Senator Merkley’s office suggests that constituents make requests 3 to 6 months prior to a desired tour date. Tour request submissions for the White House, Bureau of Engraving and Printing, and Library of Congress are time sensitive and will likely be full if you do not make requests in advance. In particular, White House tour requests should be submitted 4 to 6 months before a visit.

Is it required to disclose my personal information when making tour requests with Senator Merkley’s office?

If you are requesting a White House tour, you must submit your personal security information included in the White House section of the Request a Tour link on the webpage so the Secret Service can submit a background check. Senator Merkley’s office can accept this information from you via email, fax, or phone.
