Washington, D.C. – Continuing efforts to improve energy efficiency and promote green industries of the future, U.S. Senators Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) and Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) announced today that Portland State University will receive a $1 million grant to fund a public-private research partnership into green building practices, materials and training.
“This funding will help ensure that Portland State and Oregon remain in the forefront of green building technology development,” Wyden said. “It provides funding for a world-class research institution working to lay the groundwork for the future of the green building industry.”
“Making our buildings more efficient is key to creating new clean energy jobs and central to breaking our addiction to oil,” said Merkley. “As Congress considers energy efficiency legislation, this grant will put Portland State University ahead of the game in this emerging industry.”
Portland State University’s Green Building Research Laboratory is a university- industry partnership for the advancement of the green building industry. The mission of the lab is to research, develop and test green building technologies and practices, provide workforce training and promote the adoption of energy efficient best practices throughout the building industry. Having a link between the university and the industry allows information to travel along a two-way street helping to create green technology that works best in the field and to promote these technologies for implementation by the industry.
