Wyden, Merkley, Walden: Klamath Water Agreement is “Attainable”

Washington, D.C. – Oregon Sens. Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley and Rep. Greg Walden said today that a long-term water agreement in the Klamath Basin can be achieved with the continued help of the Interior Department.

The three Oregon lawmakers said in their letter to Deputy Commissioner Alan Mikkelsen, senior advisor to the U.S. Secretary of the Interior, that they appreciated the assistance provided by the Interior Department. And they told Mikkelsen they stand ready to work with him and all parties interested in a long-term solution for the Klamath Basin.

“History has shown that widespread agreement in the Basin is attainable,” they wrote.  “Community leaders have repeatedly come together and found common ground.

“We urge your team and stakeholders in the Klamath Basin to proceed with all appropriate urgency,” they said. “We look forward to working with you and your team on this very important endeavor.”
